the man behind the end of level boss label, cyclonix, delivers 2 club tracks just the way we like them. already tried and tested in the clubs by our man cottam, who fell in love with the tracks on first listen. they demand to be played in the early hours of the morning in dark basements from nottingham to leyland and beyond. label boss cottam takes over the b side with a leisurely walk back from the supermarket taking the scenic route for no apparent reason.

nomadico returns and unleashes yaxteq on ur with four unique tracks that work together to express his nomadic style of techno. the release starts with the singularity, an analog bass driven track with dark atmospherics and acid elements that can only truly be appreciated in a dark sweaty club at 5am

in the late 60s early 70s many american soldiers where stationed all over germany. among those where musicians who played in several army bands like the east of underground who recorded a now sought after album after they had won the special services entertainment showband contest held in frankfurt in 1971. nobody knows which other bands participated in this contest, maybe also the soul explosion which were stationed in augsburg, upper bavaria. around the same time, a man named charles held opened a club in augsburg town called tarantel. furthermore he was running a record label of the same name on which he released a handful of 7inch singles from different, local bands, mainly not funky at all though. the soul explosions release remains the only one in the field of american soul & funk music. the band recorded a fantabulous double sider, one deep funk side with a soulful ballad on the flip which makes both hardcore funk and soul collectors happy. unfortunately there is no more information available about the band, only that they even performed live at the tarantel club.

those generous chaps at aficionado return with their tenth release, eager to extend your summer with a 12 inch ticket to the sun and fun of la isla blanca. as you should know by now, messrs moon and boardman dont do things by halves so rather than hastily booking a scattering of seats on an easyjet airbus, they have plumped for the luxury and bliss of club class on onyricon air, the airline that gives you mas y mas. this pan european consortium, headed up by the production duo of leo mas and fabrice (ably assisted by the writing talent of italo legends rago and farina) formed with the aim of creating the perfect flying experience and their triumph is presented in all its transcendent beauty on the opening track.

kenny dope and louie vegas nu-yorican soul project was responsible for some of the biggest underground club hits to come out of nyc throughout the 1990s, their collective vast musical knowledge, impeccable taste and legendary status as djs in the city only helped elevate them to the highest level.
the nervous track is a fine example of the duos deep musical heritage, originally released on nervous records in 1993 its deep pads, bassline and solid as a rock breakbeats captured the ears and minds of any self respecting dj or dancer who came within a hundred miles of it, the very definition of a classic! fusing the worlds of jazz, latin, hiphop and house maw set the blueprint for generations of djs and producers to come with records like this.
here, re-mastered and re-issued from the original dats in conjunction with nervous records nyc is a piece of dance music history, the nervous track is available again and still sounding as vital and groundbreaking as it did on its original release.

the cover *theme* shimmers orange-brown and is one more reason to welcome the coming autumn. basels superkid benotmane wows us with a deep melodic track whose vocals have us quickly lost in a dream. whether we are floating, eyes-closed, across the dance-floor at an open-air or in a club, something becomes undeniable, serious goosebumps are happening. the two guys from kaiser souzai have presented us with two remixes that ultimately convince through their technoid and pulsing grooves. eskimo is the whittled-down original, reduced to its main components –revealing these with its very own flow.

skylax welcomes f.t.g., known to house music scholars as freddy the groove, and his many friends for our next release in 2014. last year, f.t.g. and his italian partner in crime, marco riff (who also appears on this very record), pressed a very limited run of a single-sided, special throwback tribute to late 80s chicago house music. the track was aptly named ‘tribute ’89’, and it put a more dancefloor oriented twist on a track by a certain originator with the initials r.h. needless to say, it became highly sought-after incredibly quickly and fuel was further added to the fire by the repeated club play by none other than the dj idol ricardo villalobos. luckily for our followers, that original mix appears on this ep with another unreleased mix of the track and 2 originals featuring belfie and alex tea alongside f.t.g.with enough said about ‘tribute ‘89’ itself, the unreleased mix maintains the warehouse vibe with a heavy kick and bouncing bass pattern but takes it to another level with the introduction of rolling vocal cuts and a rather ravey synth line. flipping over the to b-side, we are treated with two tracks by f.t.g. and alex tea, named ‘public enemy’ and ‘bango’, with the former also seeing belfie lend a helping hand in the production. both of these originals round out the record nicely and cement it as another skylax release that is definitely not to be missed

the second chapter for bizarro group zanzibar chanel, the yin-yang collaboration of agitated force zac segbedzi aka imhotep and cooled out louis cl. raw nrg captured on the fly in melbourne, the sequence of these diy productions reflect their dynamic equilibrium. on the a-side, drunk at the jazz club lays down some lo-tech disco with submerged symphonic keys and the squelching demented valentine one question. flip the record donald duck invades the elevating chicago melodies of flying high - mustnt evolves pure evil extraterrestrial funk (shout outs to dungeon master possee).

after few nolder, italian fellow lehar aka lorenzo esposito is the second new signing for connaisseur this year. apart from his residency at the cirq club in venice and regular bookings at some of the best clubs and parties in italy and malta, lehar truly is a very talented producer as well. some of you might have heard the free download for lehars remix of kollektiv turmstrasses classic *tristesse* which has caused some attention on him the past weeks and was therefore the perfect precursor for this release. his demo impressed us very much and both titles really hit our taste. and as though this wasn t enough, together with his demo he delivered a remix by his friend and probably hottest producer of the moment: mario basanov, head of the label boso and mostly know under his moniker ten walls.

promised land is a hands down acid house anthem. fact. released in 1988 on chicagos dj international label it became one of the first crossover hits of house music. transcending electronic musics boundaries it entered the worlds minds & ears with its positive lyrics & chicago house rhythms. this 2014 reissue brings together 4 definitive remastered original mixes of this all time essential classic.

what does a rave sound like the next day? the strobe lights in a dark warehouse, the pounding kick, the blur of ecstatic faces lead to a morning-after emptiness, all fade into memories of the friends you once had. on ode, tin man (proper name johannes auvinen) explores this feeling, offering tracks which possess an exhausted joy, the aural equivalent of the stretch of time beginning when the last record is played and stretching on towards the doleful contemplation of last night’s unmade sheets. appropriately, tin man’s melancholic dance music is more club-ready than ever.

southern moon is the first pre single of the upcoming munk album and comes with remixes by hnny (local talk) and darius syrossian (hot creations).. with its crisp house beat, funk baseline and beautiful singing of lizzie paige this track is a shiny little summersong that makes you think of the great production of trevor horn or masters at work with a new edge.

londoners kiwi and ashworth return to sneaky for a follow-up to dawn ep, the warm, dusty and at times experimental release, championed by the likes of daniel avery, eric duncan and tiefschwarz. the past few months have been busy for both halves of the duo, with kiwi signing to duke dumont s blase boys club and remixing for house music super-labels bpitch control and get physical, whilst ashworth has signed music to tomoki tamura s holic trax and needwant. second ep takes a new format, with two original tracks alaska and na am on the a-side, backed up by a nicholas & marcoradi remix of cux3 and ranacat s remix of zubr. alaska could be described as an amalgamation of the inspirations that lead to the first sneaky release, combining the pumping house beats of cux3, the comforting wurlitzer of zubr and the ethereal movie-soundtrack dusk. na am is something totally different, existing mainly as a collage of recorded and found sounds, avoiding the usual structure of house music in favour of something reminiscent of the weirder side of the chemical brothers. strange though the track may be, the climax would undoubtedly move a room full of pilled up ravers to a state of frenzy. the b-side remixes both hint to dance floors of the 90s, with nicholas and marcoradi making you wait and wait before dropping an unforgettable piano hook, whilst sneaky s ranacat lifts zubr out of context and into peak time territory.

as a member of parisian band club cheval, a solo dj and as one part of the notorious bromance records unit, sam tiba escapes on his own with the release of his samuel ep this september. with musical influences coming from the american ghetto underground, from miami to baltimore, sam continues to push forward as an intriguing musician with his sensual and dreamlike productions.

steve frisco, of serie limitee fame, brings us the latest bundle of hot tracks to hit wax classic in 2014. as the title suggests, steve takes us on a journey through low fidelity sounds and production techniques. think dark, moody, yet crunchy basement house tracks with inspiration taken from all over the u.s and the rest of the house world. it’s a generous offering as well. six whole dusty tunes for those diggers who are looking for something with a bit more range than another record of generic piano laden, house-by-numbers pieces that still seem to be flooding the record store shelves in 2014. the moods do vary from track to track, but they remain very reflective and almost melancholic at points. the title track, ‘adventure in lo-fi’, is the deepest of the lot with filtered chords, echoing claps and a sporadic kick pattern that often clears way for the track’s bass hits. now, compare that to ‘da brooklyn beat’. whilst the former had a distinct sunrise/sunset kind of feel to it, the latter is definitely more of a club affair. skippy snare hits and a strong organ lead the track on, and at the risk of utilizing very overused buzzwords such as ‘raw’ and ‘ruff’, this track, and the rest of the a-side for that matter, certainly captures that essence. stalwart wax classic fans will no doubt be picking this one up to add to their collection. however, i strongly recommend this ep as a jumping in point to the label for any newcomers out there

mr assister - more commonly known as the drummer that james blake sings for - unleashes his debut double b-side release on 1-800-dinosaur, the london based label and club-night of which he is a founding member. the seismic lead track bala has received rapturous feedback from the likes of jamie xx, jd twitch, martyn, gilles peterson & pearson sound etc and was made on a laptop in mr as kitchen without much knowledge of the software he was using at the time. prior to bala he came up with the deeper, headier house workout reggae drums on the tour bus, using samples of drums from reggae songs.

last year accidental records released herbert complete, a 130- track boxset featuring herberts entire extensive back catalogue. it included rare and unreleased tracks from the mid 90s right up to the critically acclaimed bodily functions and scale albums. though this might have felt like the closing of the doors for matthew herberts house moniker, particularly with the ever forward-thinking producer having moved onto making music out of an exploding bomb, a shopping list, a club and even a pig, this thankfully is not the end for this side of the prolific composers output. following last months release of the 4-track ep part 6 comes the unsurprisingly titled part 7.

purple velvet is chris james and lee dearn, two purveyors of deep and sensuous house music since forming in late 2011. having gotten to know each other at various late night music sessions, the pair have increasingly honed their own house sound that s as suited to the dark confines of a club as it is the sunnier vibes of an outdoor terrace.

to accompany the release of especial s compilation mix cd, -eleccio- - offering of a snapshot of the first 9 eps on the label - a limited edition sampler ep is being released featuring 4 unreleased remixes from the label s roster to date. ever since the first white labels appeared at the end of summer 2013, emotional especial has had a busy release schedule, putting out music that are a slightly warped take on club music. mixing the influences of dub, electro, disco, proto-house, house and techno, a feeling, a sound, a vibe has appeared without any preordained plan. with the release of ees10cd - a dj meets studio compilation mix created by label mainstay and handyman, jamie paton - to mark the end of first series of the label, it was decided to included a couple of specal unreleased remixes to add a bit of new with the old in the mix. to that end this limited edition vinyl sampler was created to include the two remixes, plus the inclusion of another two gems that simply needed to see the light of day. first is the alternative -member- remix of inhalt by black merlin - a strings meets leather bar club-dub-out that takes things deeper and darker than before. this is followed by jamie delivering his own take of khidja s massive mustafa, with a warped, swamped out dub. next is another mix from cage & aviary of their pals, blancemange. brooding low-slung rerub dub anyone? finally there is a very special remix by khidja of the ganges orchestra. reissued on emotional rescue in 2013, this special remix takes the vocal mantra of the original and creates a balearic-raga tale that perfectly rounds off especial to date.

ceol is the moniker adopted by glasgow’s dom cappello and lee duncan. dom’s productions as hutton drive have appeared on cult labels like soma and the frustrated funk sub-label, frantic flowers, whilst as half of harri & domenic he continues to hold down the residency at glasgows legendary sub club. fellow glaswegian lee duncan records as leeon and debuted in 2012 on the cult seventh sign label. lee will also return under his solo alias later this year.

drew lustman is widely known for his work as faltydl but on 2000black we know him simply as drew. *put it out there* displays drews ability to take you on a musical journey within a club music track, whilst *a thorough study* takes a look at sonic emotion. the remix of *a thorough study* is by mr goodgood aka dego. strictly on wax for now.

manchester artist belly is back with his second ep of 2014 released through his new inprint belly dance and this time he is joined by east end soul vocalist shona carmen & one half of asphodells tiimothy j fairplay on the remix. the second ep see s belly up the pace slightly from his inagural release moving slightly away of the slow beat of tracks like dark autumn and farewell and embark on a sligtly more up tempo , swing style bordering on the style of machine drum. the first track control is a hazy club track with strong vocals from both belly & shona backed up by drum and bass beats which is followed by vocal heavy space beats in the form of zu . on the flip side we see the real inpact of shona carmen with a clubtrack loaded with summer vibes called painting . the vocals are soulfull and beautiful with a swing tempo and drum patterns that lift throughout. this is followed by timothy j fairplay bringing in his own take on 90 s chicago garage music with a banging clubtrack remix of dark autumn off of belly dance 001.

airhead is writing big ones now. inspired by afterhours sessions in some of the worlds best and worst nightclubs, hek024 bangs with the best of them and enforces a new weight behind the producers delicate production style. the roughness debuted on this summers *believe* ep for 1-800 dinosaur (a label rob co-runs with james blake and friends) on which he soaked up plenty of influences from us and uk club tracks/trax and effortlessly intertwined them with his measured songwriting and arrangement skills.

tiagos interzona 13 label has quietly gone about its business across three acclaimed and sold-out eps. his unique reputation as a dj is matched by the distinctive and unrivaled quality of his productions. for his fourth outing tiago treads an arguably more experimental path, and using sem titulo (untitled in portuguese) on three of the cuts here only adds to the mysterious nature of the sonic treats within. present, as always are the deft rhythm sections and powerful arrangements, as subtle elements of disco, techno & new wave provide the bedrock for his trademark off kilter melodies and soundscaping. the darker underbelly of club life may well be the inspiration, but the mood and execution are pure tiago! another beauty then from this outstanding, diverse and incomparable imprint.
